Self-Storage REIT Outlook Remains Positive, Green Street Analyst Says

Ryan Burke, an analyst at Green Street Advisors, joined Nareit for a video interview at REITworld 2017.

Burke discussed the performance of the self-storage sector and its long-term outlook.

“Despite near-term pressures, we continue to think the long-term outlook is pretty good,” Burke said. However, he added that he expects some softening of the “very easy and supportive operating environment” that self-storage REITs have experienced in the past several years.

National Retail Properties Focused on Direct, Off-Market Retail Relationships

Julian Whitehurst, president and CEO of National Retail Properties, Inc. (NYSE: NNN), joined Nareit for a video interview at REITworld 2017.

National Retail owns single-tenant, broadly diversified retail properties across the United States.

Whitehurst commented on National Retail’s acquisition strategy. He noted that the company’s primary focus is on developing direct, off-market business relationships with growing regional and national retailers.

Global Real Estate Investor Says Brexit Still Impacting UK Fundamentals

Sherry Rexroad, chief investment officer for the Americas at BlackRock Global Real Estate Securities, joined Nareit for a video interview at REITworld 2017.

Rexroad commented on investment conditions around the globe.

In the United Kingdom, uncertainty surrounding Brexit remains and is impacting fundamentals and valuations, according to Rexroad. As for Northern Europe, growth has been accelerating on the back of particularly good demand and limited supply, she said.

Leisure and Hospitality REIT VICI Properties Focused on Experiential Real Estate

Ed Pitoniak, CEO of VICI Properties Inc. (OTC: VICI), joined Nareit for a video interview at REITworld 2017.

VICI Properties, which was formed in the second half of 2017, owns a portfolio of gaming, hospitality and entertainment destinations that are operated by Caesars Entertainment Corp., including Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

While the portfolio consists of gaming properties, the company sees the assets fundamentally as leisure and hospitality properties, Pitoniak explained.

Portfolio Manager Favors Single-Family Rental, Manufactured Home REITs

Arthur Hurley, senior equity portfolio manager at Columbia Threadneedle Investments, joined Nareit for a video interview at REITworld 2017.

Hurley commented on the creation of a headline Real Estate Sector under the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) for REITs and other listed real estate companies. He noted that the move has generated a lot more attention for the group from a broader investor base. REIT CEOs, CFOs and investor relations professionals should keep that broader audience in mind as they craft their messages, Hurley said.
